September 9. Despite having stayed out quite late celebrating her birthday, Grace and her friends were up fairly early to meet another Haverford alumna for breakfast near Stanford. When she returned to Kate’s we made good use out of the fact that we now were traveling in two SUVs, not just one. Kate gave Grace an Oriental rug, a table and two bookshelves, which almost made up for the loss of the shelf that had originally been strapped to the roof.
Oh, and Dave insisted that the dumplings and Kimchi just had to go. They smelled bad enough by this point that Grace was not heartbroken.
We met Dave’s friend Jim Martling in Sausolito for lunch then strolled around the docks.
Out of the blue we texted the Reeves, who happened to see the texts and didn’t mind us stopping by unannounced at their lovely home in Kentfield. No photos, unfortunately! After a quick visit, we were back on the road again to Sonoma. We had a drink in the town square, than headed into the hills to the Coopers’ place.
Dave with some of the Coopers’ many animals (dogs, cats, pheasants, chickens…)
Uncle Willie (not her real uncle, but one of those old friends who gets that name) whipped up a lovely meal that we ate on the Coopers’ expansive patio under the arbor. Somehow we don’t have any photos of the actual Coopers, just their house and grounds!
